The first night of Meatstock was a blast. If you like windy ass nights and freezing cold sleep that is. There was a whole new world opened up to us this weekend. Happy, good people sharing their joy with everyone and making new friends and reuniting with old friends that we had not seen in some time. On the first and second night Ron was spinning flame while people watched in awe and amazement and Amber got her hula hoopin on. This picture does him no justice … I neet to get the video up here.
There was the coolest fire barrel with flames a roaring. The ol barrel is set up to be a display of it’s own. Of course our camera makes lights look like demons at night. Something about a shutter speed setting??? The fire went well and kept us even warmer on the second night. The first night was cold but the second night was icy cold. I think we ended up not even using a cooler on the second night it was so chilly out there.
Chelle and Julie where having fun snapping self portraits and you can kind of get a glimpse of Amber in the background. With Chelles mad photography skills there always seems to be a finger in the way.
This one turned out ok but if I remember correctly this is the one that Chelle finally said OK to someone else snapping a shot. Most of them she had to take though!!!
Even Skrinkle made it out the the event. I got to catch Fancy with his mouth wide open and looking crazy. FINALLY! We don’t get to see Fancy making crazy faces in pics that much ….. heh! Only every one. But now we have one of our own to share with ya.
Good Times!!! With not a whole lot else to do except for eat meat and kick it with friends we wanted to get as close to nature as we could even though the temperature would not really allow it. I don’t mean get naked and run around like nuts … I mean get out and just walk around in the moonlight and see what is to see. I did see quite a few crickets and a couple ghosts .. hehe! I’m not sure if they where real ghosts or just someone playing tricks on me. Could have been either way I don’t know for sure really!
There is much to be desired the next morning after a hard night of rocking out and drinkin beers. The next morning we all got our lazy asses out of the tents … and ran out for the morning bathroom dance ritual. (Everyone had to go pee, I went 9 times while I was sleeping) We had to go WAY out to PEE for obvious reasons but when I got way out I turned around to look at the camp and realized how far I actually went. That place is HUGE. The dry lake bed out at Delamar is just big big.
But everything is so beautiful out there in the morning and the day time that you can not help but just walk around and see it all.
Even the sun looks different in those hills. We were something like 4700 feet above sea level to the wind was a little high but the day was not too hot and the night was clod but not TOO cold.
The next day we went to a place where the gold miners or silver miners had settled and made themselves a small little community out in the middle of no where. Delamar is way off the beaten path where snakes and old rusty polls are sticking out of the ground now. There are a few walls where buildings used to stand and one or two or them still have all four sides. As you can see there is one of the still standing structures that had a door and no roof. It was great to be out there with Cpt. Bill and Amber, they are a great couple and it was awesome to meet them. Can’t wait to see them again!! Most of the buildings our in the ghost town didn’t have much integrity left and looked very interesting as well as run down.
There is Violet and everyone getting ready to head to the main part of the ghost town where the years have taken their toll on Delamar Ghost town. This once thriving community lost many people (Men) and left many wives and families without fathers and husbands. Today it just sits in ruin from the weather and time. We did see a very small rock out there that had the numbers 1595 carved into it and looked as though it was an intentional carving for making a mold of the numbers on something, as the numbers were backwards.
We explored the mine area and saw one hole still leading into the ground but after finding a light and some brave explorers we discovered that the hole was only about 25-30 feet deep. It had been collapsed most likely by the miners way back in the day when they left that area of Nevada. There was even a small graveyard off west of the town. The graveyard was kind of sad as there were some pretty young people buried there. One of the biggest head stones was a 19 year old boy and some of his family was buried next to him.
We saw a whole lot of interesting and odd things this weekend. On the way back from the ghost town of Delamar I spotted these three crosses on top of a hill in the middle of the drive to the lake bed. These where no ordinary crosses .. they are huge like tall and big and white. They are on top of a hill set off the road about a quarter mile. Off of the dirt road that is. If you look at where all this is located on Google Earth or something you may get an idea of how far apart these miners and lakes actually were. There is much about Nevada that amazes me and strikes me as something I am glad that I missed and at the same time wish I could have seen their lives for just a day. Well maybe a week.
OH YEAH …. and we saw a ghost at the ghost town. No for real we did. This is the weirdest shit ever …. On our #51 picture that we took out there .. we saw a ghost in the picture.
This is what we saw. This picture is unaltered except for the stroke and the line to show you a larger than normal image of the ghost. The reason this is so weird as I started to say before is because there is a link between the picture and the area we were in. We were right next door, and in the direction of the picture, to Area 51.
Sometime we will go out there again and explore a little more .. this time we just didn’t have the energy or the time to kill on land exploration. Although we did have a great time going out into the land deep within the Nevadian historical areas, we would liked to have had more supplies and much more time to spend out there hunting down rattlers and history. The rattle of their tails really is scary … not that I was scared but .. the sound is a deterrent for sure.
One day soon we will take another adventure out to the dry lake beds and the ghosts towns of Nevada. Until then … pick up a book and read something.
